newspapers and popculture

computer hasn't been working right, so i couldn't post this for a while. not wonderful, but the idea wouldn't get out of my head. so here it is. blargh.

. . .

newspapers and pop culture

another politician’s dream to the rule the world shatters
his opponent’s star rises
we trade dictator for dictator
find ourselves a new savior
and antidepressants are driving kids to suicide
(we’d be better off swallowing the ones we get off the street)
pop culture poison is playing sex and teen angst in my ears once again
you trade me pieces of jade for my marbled eyes
and sell me a name-brand soul at half price
(what a steal!)
I wear both to the temples
erected by middle class, pot-smoking teens to superstar gods
and gather compliments on my cynicism
(how cool it is not to feel)
at home we plug ourselves into our machines
I read the news:
Martha Steward’s on trial, there’s a new miracle diet, another celebrity wedding
and in tiny print, overseas fifty more have died...
one of these days we’re all going to commit
en masse social suicide
