what they never told you (about being in love)

they never told you
that you might end up dating
someone six inches shorter than you
the same sex as you
that she might be half a foot shorter and have her face
pressed into your chest
and you lean down
to press your face into her shoulder, into her hair
in front of half her art class filtering into the room
she leans up to kiss you
faces press, skin on skin on skin
your noses are in the way--
not so romantic--
you finally get it right, both facing each other
you barely feel her lips, but it's delilcious--
and then you're gone,
down the hallway,
late for your next class
